ScanForge for Android · Effective October 7, 2026

In short

  • We do not collect any data about you.
  • Your photos, your documents and their text are processed on your phone and are not sent to anyone.
  • The app has no permission to connect to the Internet.
  • The only permission it asks for is the camera, and you can decline it.
  • No accounts, no ads and no tracking.
  • A file only leaves the app when you share it or save it somewhere else.

1. What this policy covers

This policy describes how the ScanForge app for Android ("the app"), identified by the package name com.scanforge.app, handles information. It also covers this website.

2. What information the app uses and why

All the information in this table is processed and kept on your device.

Information What it is used for Where it stays
Photos you take with the camera inside the app Creating the pages of your documents. The app's private storage.
Images you pick from your gallery Creating the pages of your documents. They are copied to the app's private storage.
Text recognized on the pages and your corrections Showing, searching and exporting it. The app's private database.
Names of documents, folders and tags Organizing and searching your documents. The app's private database.
PDF and text files you create So you can share or save them. The app's private storage, until you send or save them elsewhere.

Private storage is an area of the device that other apps cannot access. The camera image you see while framing is analyzed on the spot to draw the outline of the page and is not stored; only the photos you take are saved.

3. On-device processing

Edge detection, perspective correction, filters, text recognition (OCR) and PDF creation all run on your device. No image or text is sent to any server, ours or anyone else's.

Text recognition uses Google's ML Kit library, with its model bundled inside the app. That library contains a usage statistics component. Because ScanForge has no Internet permission, that component cannot send anything.

4. What information we receive

None. The app has no servers, includes no analytics or advertising, and cannot connect to the Internet. We do not know who uses it, what documents they scan or how often.

5. Permissions

The app does not ask for access to your storage, contacts, location, microphone or the Internet. To pick images it uses the Android photo picker, which only hands over the images you select. To save a file outside the app it uses the Android folder picker and only writes the file you confirm.

6. When you share or save a file

If you share a PDF or text with another app, or save it to a folder on the device, that copy is no longer under ScanForge's control. From then on, the terms of the app or service you chose apply.

7. Backups

ScanForge documents are excluded from Android's automatic backups, so they are not uploaded to the cloud unless you decide to. This means that if you uninstall the app or change phones, your documents are not restored automatically: export the ones you want to keep first.

8. Retention and deletion

Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing we could look up, correct or delete on your behalf: everything is on your device and under your control.

9. Children

The app does not collect data from anyone, whatever their age.

10. This website

This site uses no cookies, forms or analytics tools. It is hosted on GitHub Pages; like any web server, GitHub may log technical data about visits, such as the IP address, under its own privacy statement. Those logs are not linked to the app or to anything you do in it.

11. Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects what is described here, we will update this page and its effective date before releasing the change.

12. Contact
